ACTIVITIES of the Northern California Chapter

Always open to members, guests and anyone interested in bamboo.

Fitz-1

The Chapter is less active at the moment and could use enthusiastic volunteers.

The Northern CA Chapter hosted the November 2017 American Bamboo Society Annual Meeting in San Francisco, six weeks after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, the original location for the meeting. The events and presentations planned for Puerto Rico were either cancelled or moved to San Francisco.

In spite of the short notice (hosting Chapters normally have 1 - 2 years to prepare), the SF County Fair Building was kind enough to accommodate us, and with several volunteers all went smoothly.

Remember also that that October was the month the terribly destructive fires happened in Northern CA.

Earlier in 2017 the NCC had held its winter meeting on 28 January, at the San Francisco County Fair Building (9th at Lincoln, Golden Gate Park), Garden Club Room.

The program was "Rebuilding Solutions for Earthquake-Impacted Areas Using Bamboo", presented by Paulina Hermansen, who hadrecently spearheaded an effort in Ecuador (her native country) to instruct local builders in building structures of bamboo in response to the earthquake which caused over 700 fatalities. Images and videos showed the results of the workshop.

** The Northern California Chapter was a major supporter of this workshop in Ecuador. **
